Glaucoma
This 43-year-old patient had not seen an ophthalmologist for over 5 years and had previously not noticed the partly severely reduced vision of 0.05 in the right eye and 0.63 in the left eye. The measured intraocular pressure was significantly elevated on both sides at 41 and 50 mmHg (normal value 10-21 mmHg). The optic nerve showed advanced excavation bilaterally. The immediate further eye examination by an ophthalmologist on site ultimately confirmed the diagnosis of advanced glaucoma. Glaucoma leads to the degeneration of nerve fibers, which, if left untreated, can result in blindness.
Retinal detachment
This 61-year-old patient had never visited an ophthalmologist before. She reported no complaints. Her visual acuity was reduced, measuring 0.63 and 0.5 decimal. There was no shortsightedness, and the ocular history was unremarkable. In our examination, there was suspicion of a retinal detachment in the right eye, which untreated can quickly lead to severe, permanent vision loss. The patient was immediately informed of the findings by phone and visited the nearby university eye clinic on the same day.

The innovative concept of Ocumeda
Comprehensive access to eye care
Ocumeda enables easy and accessible access to eye care in Germany, Austria, and Switzerland. Around 60% of Ocumeda's customers had never been to an eye doctor before, which not only raises awareness for regular check-ups but also reaches people who previously had no access to ophthalmological care.
How does Ocumeda work?
First, we integrate our teleophthalmological Ocumeda system with our certified partner opticians. After comprehensive training, the staff is well-prepared to handle the system and conduct eye check-ups to provide the best possible service. The trained staff measure the visual acuity, refraction, and intraocular pressure of the customers. Additionally, they capture images of the retina using a fundus camera. The collected data is securely transmitted to the Ocumeda platform.
Modern technology and highest image quality
Ocumeda focuses on state-of-the-art equipment and trained professionals to ensure outstanding image quality. Thanks to the advanced technology and precise training of our partner optometrists, high-quality images can be produced, enabling reliable evaluations by ophthalmologists.
Evaluation & Traffic Light System
The assessment is carried out by ophthalmologists from Germany, Austria, and Switzerland, who check the data for abnormalities. The evaluation is self-explanatory based on a traffic light system: Green means everything is fine, Yellow and Red indicate that a clarification with a local eye doctor is necessary.
In case of abnormalities, referal to the local specialist.
In case of significant results, customers are directly referred to local specialists for a comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. This ensures that the right ophthalmic care is provided quickly when needed.
